Overview / Key Takeaways

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged.

Q&A with CDLLife

Q: Who are you and what do you do?

Answer

Marten Transport was started by Roger Marten in 1946 with a loan from his mother to purchase his first truck which he used to haul milk from farms in the Mondovi, WI area to the local creamery. Over the past 70 + years, Marten Transport has grown from those humble beginnings to become a multi-faceted time and temperature sensitive carrier serving the US, Canada and Mexico.

The company operates a fleet of 2,800 tractors and both refrigerated and dry trailers. Traditionally known as a refrigerated, long-haul carrier, over the past 10 years, Marten has expanded into regional, intermodal and dedicated operations. And in 2016, Marten began our dry-van division. Still headquartered in Mondovi, WI, Marten continues to be an innovator and leader in the transportation industry.

Q: What makes your company unique from all other trucking companies?

Answer

Marten Transport has spent the last several years building the kinds of driving jobs drivers want along with a compensation plan built with e-logs in mind. Every week we work to create more driving positions that offer power-lane running with weekly home time. We realize drivers are the life blood of the company and we go above and beyond to support them.

Q: What can you tell our readers about the culture of your company?

Answer

Marten realizes how valuable our drivers’ time is. That’s why we were the first carrier to offer automatic detention pay. And Marten continues to be the only carrier that offers inclement weather shutdown pay. We actually pay our drivers to shut down when road conditions become so poor that accident possibilities become far too great. We don’t want our drivers taking unnecessary risks. Marten drivers are paid $20.00 per hour for detention and weather shutdown pay. No other carrier comes close. This keeps our drivers’ earnings consistent from week to week.
